He was exciting in his prime and gave Charlotte a lot of good years, but he really never had the game to be a number one option on a strong playoff team. This is not to say he was ever overrated or anything. You couldn't expect guys like Zeller, MKG, Biyombo, Batum or Marvin Williams to be a nightly 20+ ppg, so Kemba took on that role more than he probably would have if his team were more balanced. best teammate by Win Shares was Jeremy Lamb (78th in the league), and had no other teammates in the top 100. In arguably his best year (2018-2019), he finished with 7.4 win shares (34th in the league). It's no secret he didn't have a lot of highly talented teammates in Charlotte. His numbers were inflated because he was on the Hornets. Not all guards have this career trajectory, but enough do that it's something to consider. It happens to a lot of guards (Derrick Rose, Jeff Teague, John Wall, Deron Williams etc.), and their peaks happen relatively early in their careers, compared to wings and bigs. He was younger and healthy, but his body hasn't kept up with his play. But now he's starting to look like an average pg and not what we all thought he was or could be and that's fine, not every player can be great, I'm just a little surprise by how he became so average at his position so quick. I remember when Kemba was so good for the Hornets that people had him as a top 5 pg, he was making the all stars teams and people were going with the narrative, at the time, that he was too good for the Hornets and that team didn´t deserved him, that he should go and team up with another all star caliber players for him to at least have a chance to win it all. Now he got a chance with the Knicks and things had not look very good the whole season. I know things didn´t work out with the Celtics as we all thought it wauld and part of it is because of injuries, but when he played in the playoffs he wasn´t the Kemba we all knew. We check every one, whether it seems like we do or not.Įver since Kemba left the Charlotte Hornets, he has not been the same. Please report content that breaks the rules.
